In 1990 Lawrence Mowery received his first SLR 35mm camera from his parents as a graduation gift. That camera, and the desire to create using the hotographic medium, would take him to places he would never have dreamed possible.

After being accepted to Brooks Institute of Photography a year later, heI relocated to Ventura, California to attend the highly accredited photography school. While trying to save money to attend Brooks Institute of Photography, LawrenceI enrolled at Ventura College and started taking photography courses to refine his skills and get more darkroom experience. His instructor, Terry Timmons, who was a student of Ansel Adams, helped and refined his photographic and darkroom techniques. Lawrence's time at Ventura College was well spent as he continued to work and shoot photos of the Ventura coast.

In 1996, Lawrence joined an organization called Y.W.A.M. (Youth With A Mission) and was their photographer on several trips including Nepal, Australia and Indonesia. The people and places that he photographed on these adventures would redefine not only the person that he would become, but the photographer that he wanted to be.

After two years with YWAM, Lawrence settled down in his home town, and began to do freelance graphic design, webdesign and photographic services under the company name of Kukur Enterprises (click here for the story behind the name).

In 2000, after the death of his father, Lawrence relocated to St. Maries, Idaho and began employment with the St. Maries Gazette Record Newspaper/Internet Service Provider. That same year, without really knowing it, he met his future wife at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lewiston, Idaho. After being friends for three years, Lawrence and Jamie decided to wed (click here to read the story behind the marriage).

After their wedding, Lawrence and Jamie sorted through the stack of wedding photos their photographer gave to them in a shoe box. Jamie said, "We could do so much better." Lawrence knew what she meant, but wasn't ready for what she was about to do about it. After a year of marriage, and constant encouragment from his loving wife, Lawrence decided to return to offering his photographic services as a part-time endeavor. Their idea was to offer their services at affordable prices to a limited number of clients. They looked at how Kukur could do things differently when it came to locations, package pricing and reprint ordering. What they came up with is a photography company they are proud to call our own.

In 2008, with much excitement, Lawrence and Jamie decided to take Kukur to the next level and are now offering their photography and design services full-time to the public.

Although this bio is only a mere morsel of the events that lead up to their decision to open Kukur Photography, it can all be attributed to the grace, love and confidence that has been given to them by their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It has been through their trials and sufferings that "produces perseverance; perseverance produces character; and character produces hope. And hope does not disappoint us." It is our hope that Kukur Photography will enable Lawrence and Jamie to reach and obtain those dreams that God has put on their hearts.
